Byrd-S03-EP312 Storyboard Revisions

Sometimes boards come in, and they aren't clear enough. We work with a variety of board artists, and revisions are normal. Here are some examples of storyboard panel revisions, before and after.

Before Revision
Shot 88
Poet is supposed to be a hero "talking tough," but he looks empty and weird.
Is he supposed to be a ghost??
After Revision
Shot 88
Look out, bad guys.

Before Revision
Shot 21
Sad kid, Derrick. No emotion.
He should share his feelings, not hide them; and what does that finger mean?
However, I kept the lower arm pose, to protect his feelings a little.

After Revision
Shot 21
Says it all.
Before Revision
Shot 23
Lily, an aristocratic girl, gives sympathy to sad kid, Derrick.
This gesture is not appropriate for the character, or her intentions.
After Revision
Shot 23
Gesture with graceful arcs, friendly open hand.

Before Revision
Shot 35
Bad Guys hiding in bushes.
Unclear emotions, and I can't even recognize the characters.

After Revision
Shot 35
Leader more dominant in composition, proportions corrected, acting clearer.

Before Revision
Shot 70
Thief #1 sneaking through house, knocks over a vase.
Before Revision
Shot 71
Thief #2 catches vase.
Unclear composition, wrong character emphasis, wrong camera angle,
Thief #2 is too far away from the table; action is not clearly staged.
After Revision
Shot 70 -Panel 1
After Revision
Shot 70 -Panel 2
Thief #1 sneaking through house, not paying attention,

After Revision
Shot 71 -Panel 4

After Revision

and shows both character's reactions, more clearly

Just some of the stuff we deal with every day...

(This is why we do all our video reference at storyboard stage now :)

Ding-Dong Krong Storyboard (Pyrata Ep4)

A storyboard for PaddlePop Lion "Pyrata" Episode 4. The characters are trapped in the Temple of Krong, a giant gorilla, in a send-up of King Kong. All due respect to the serious version.
